Mother Nature gave Independent Sales Director Chanita Hall and her unit a sunny, warm spring day for their 1st Annual 5K Walk for Women, organized by Independent Beauty Consultant Christine Thrift. Independent Beauty Consultants Suzanne Cyre, Lucy Gallardo, Dawn Plath and Susan Smith joined the April 2008 walk, which meandered through a 5K course at Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln, R.I., wrapping around woods, a beach and a pond.

Christine crafted a letter requesting support for the walk, and the unit gave this to customers at skin care classes. Through the generosity of their customers and their own donations, the six women raised more than $645 for the Foundation.

"We walked for our customers," remarks Susan. "Our pink T-shirts drew attention and gave us the opportunity to talk with people about Mary Kay and our purpose for walking. The day couldn't have been any better! We're definitely doing this again next year."
