Cheers were heard around the country as sports fans participated in 5Ks and Fun Runs, bike rides, and baseball and hockey events to raise money for the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. Here are highlights from a few of these grandstanding events held to benefit the Foundation’s causes.

Mary Kay pink Cadillacs were on display at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Miss., on Saturday, Aug. 11, for the Cardinals versus Los Angeles Dodgers game. To add to the fun, Mary Kay Inc. Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Mary Kay’s grandson, Ryan Rogers, threw out the first pitch. Pregame festivities included Cardinal player autographs, music and games, and recognition for top ticket sellers. Independent Sales Directors in their purple suits and Independent Beauty Consultants sporting red jackets lined the field to take a stand for cancer research and programs to eliminate violence against women. Independent Elite Executive Senior Sales Director Kim Cavarretta and the St. Louis independent sales force members hit a home run for the Foundation, raising over $10,000.

The girls youth program from the Port Edwards, Wis., Christian Life Fellowship has been raising money for cancer research for several years. This group of third- to-fifth grade girls decided that in 2007 they would “Bike for a Cause” and support the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. Family, friends, teachers and neighbors signed up to support cancer research and a six-mile ride that each girl completed on Sept. 30 as a kickoff to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Thank you, Stars Club, for pedaling your way to a donation of $567.

Independent Sales Director Susan Sullivan and six enthusiastic Independent Beauty Consultants including Sue Sullivan, Donna Snopkowski, Bonnie Lindstrom, Linda Lavelle, Pam Carr and Joann Catanese, raised customer support for their 6th annual fundraiser, a walk at their local mall in Buffalo, N.Y. Their great efforts resulted in donations to the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation totaling $1,423.

Independent Sales Director Nidia Anderson and the “Women of Wisdom” independent sales force members have made a commitment to support the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation every six months with a walk around May 13 in honor of Mary Kay Ash’s birthday and Sept. 13, Mary Kay Inc.’s company anniversary. Nidia explained, “This is our way of honoring Mary Kay and her dream.” Their 2007 fall walk in Pembroke Pines, Fla., resulted in a donation of $210.

Rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of Independent Sales Director Ann Wells and the participants in the First Annual MK5K® held in Virginia Beach, Va. The event was sponsored by Sentara Princess Anne, a local medical care provider which distributed literature on cancer detection and prevention the day of the race. The event raised $1,080 through registration fees and sponsorships.
